UPDATE: St. Michael, Albertville Fire Departments on Scene at Deadly House Fire

A 19-year-old man is dead after a house fire ripped through Hassan Township home west of St. Michael.

A 19-year-old man was killed Saturday when a fire broke out at a Hassan Township home around 6:45 p.m.

St. Michael and Albertville fire departments were called to assist at the scene of the the deadly  house fire at 24397 141st Avenue, Hassan Township Saturday.

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Department responded to the initial emergency call, which came in the middle of a severe thunderstorm Saturday night, the same system that dropped a tornado on Medina, about 15 miles south of Hassan Township.

Rogers Fire called in for mutual aid from Dayton Fire and Rescue and St. Michael Fire Department immediately. Albertville Fire was called in around 8 p.m., about an hour later.

Rogers Fire Chief Brad Feist said there was a storm in the area at the time of the fire, but did not speculate on the cause.

“The State Fire Marshal will lead the investigation,” he said. “Until then, we don’t know what caused it.”

Crews from Rogers, Dayton and St. Michael knocked down the fire, but the home was a complete loss. Hennepin County Sheriff’s Department deputies were on hand to investigate the scene, and focused on a front bedroom in the small, rambler style home.

Authorities said a woman in her 40s was able to escape the home with injuries. Hennepin County later identified that person as the deceased man's mother. The two were the only residents at home at the time of the fire, a spokesperson from the sheriff's department said.
