St. Michael-Albertville Graduate Identified as Second Victim in Maple Grove Crash

The Minnesota State Patrol identified the 28-year-old Buffalo resident after getting in touch with the woman's father Sunday. The crash's other victim, Jeremiah Wall, had a troubled past.

The Minnesota State Highway Patrol's Office has identified the second victim in a motor vehicle accident that killed two people in Maple Grove early Sunday morning.

Authorities said 28-year-old Sara Rose Deckert, a 2001 graduate of St. Michael-Albertville High School, was the innocent victim of the accident, killed when she was broadsided by Jeremiah Robert Wall, 34, of Albertville.

Wall also died at the scene.

Fellow Class of 2001 Tia Elliot told Patch Deckert was "quiet," and a sweet girl, from what she remembered.

Details from the preliminary accident report released by the Minnesota State Patrol are as follows:

Wall was stopped by a Hennepin County Sheriff’s Deputy on suspicion “of being impaired.” Wall fled the stop and “continued at a high rate of speed on Hennepin County Road 81."

The report stated witnesses said the vehicle driven by Wall entered the intersection of 93rd Avenue North “against the red light” as a second vehicle entered the intersection “when it was struck in driver's door.”

The impact was great enough to kill the drivers of both vehicles. Neither had a passenger at the time.

The report said the incident happened at 1:18 a.m. July 10 and that the Hennepin County Deputy was “not in close proximately” to the first vehicle at the time of the crash. The Maple Grove Police Department also assisted at the scene.

Wall had history of run-ins

Sunday morning's incident wasn't the first time Wall had fled police, or the first time he'd been stopped for driving under the influence.

Wall had a history of prior arrests in Wright County, including a 2000 case that included driving under the influence, drug possession and bodily harm (vehicular).

Other convictions in Wright County included criminal damage to property (2002) and fleeing police by means other than a motor vehicle (2007).

Recently, he's also had traffic violations in Todd County (2011), Mahnomen County (2009) and Otter Tail County (2009).
