Wild Weather, Substance Violations Highlight a Busy Week for Police, Fire in St. Michael

Severe storms, a deadly fire and a handful of substance violations and miscellaneous crimes dotted yet another busy week in May.

First-responders and crime fighters were busy as wild weather in the skies and even stranger activities on the ground flooded both the fire and sheriff's departments. 

The Wright County Sheriff's Office made several arrests in and around St. Michael, and a wild night highlighted (or, lowlighted) by a tornado 10 miles away and a severe thunderstorm closer to home included a deadly fire in Hassan Township.

Steven Jeremy Sandness, 44, Otsego, was arrested in Albertville on driving anfter cancellation, inimical to public safety.

The St. Michael Fire Department responded to a medical call in the 100 block of Willow Drive. An elderly female had an irregular heartbeat. 

May 21

The St. Michael Fire Deaprtment responded to a medical call in the 80th block of Third Street. There was a female having chest pains. 

Albertville Fire responded medical emergency at 2:12 p.m. on the 7000 block of Jaber Ave.  A male party was having a possible stroke.

The St. Michael department responded to another medical call in the 1000 block of 46th Place NE, a 69-year-old female was having abdominal pain.

St. Michael Fire and Wright County deputies responded to a medical emergency in the 500 block of Heights Road when two 4-year-old girls fell out of an upstairs window. 

Finally the day was capped by a call to aid with a deadly house fire in the 24000 block of 141st Avenue of Hassan Township. A 19-year-old man was killed. Albertville Fire also assisted in the investigation and on mop-up. 

May 22

Joanne Marie Nieman, 44, Buffalo, was arrested in Albertville on a Wright County Warrant for fifth-degree substance violation.

The St. Michael Fire Department responded to a gas detector sounding in the 13000 block of 45th Place. 

The department also was called to a fire at the intersection of Frankfort Parkway and Naber Avenue Northeast. A pile of woodchips was smoldering in the community garden.

AFD responded medical emergency at 3:52 p.m. at the Lion’s (Central) Park in Albertville.  A male party had a compound fractured leg.

May 23

Adam Mark Swanson, 31, Otsego, was arrested in Otsego on charge of domestic assault. 

Albertville Fire responded medical emergency at 10:13 a.m. at the Allina Medical Clinic in Albertville.  A male party was having chest pains.

AFD also responded medical emergency at 7:27  p.m. on the 11000 block of 56th Street.  A male party was having a chest pains.

May 24

The St. Michael Fire Department responded to a call in the 10th block of Main Street North. It was a false alarm. 

May 25

St. Michael Fire responded to a medical call in the 4000 block of Jana Avenue. There was a possible overdose. 

The sheriff's department also reported nine property damage accidents, two personal injury accidents, and six other arrests for DWI. There were five underage consumption arrests, a school bus stop arm violation and 35 tickets for miscellaneous traffic violations for the week.
