Wright County Deputies Investigating Albertville Burglaries

Two break-ins in shortly over a month have deputies working hard to catch a thief.

Wright County Sheriff's Department investigators are researching a pair of burglaries in Albertville, the most recent of which happened this week.

Back on April 11, a resident in the 11600 block of 52nd Street Northeast reported a break-in at a home around 10:45 a.m., just two hours after the homeowner left the residence. Several items were taken, including electronics and valuables.

"That one remains open and we are investigating," said Sheriff Joe Hagerty. "It really looks like it was staked out. They knew when the homeowner was going to take off and found that opportunity."

Deputies believe access to the home was gained via a side window.

Yesterday, May 16, a burglary was reported at 2:49 p.m. in the 6400 block of 64th Street Northeast in Albertville. The homeowner reported a door to the residence had been forced open to gain entry, and several items, including many electronics, were missing from the home. The homeowner left the home at 8:30 a.m. Children living at the home were at school.

A third burglary was reported in the area yesterday as well, with a break-in in the 9200 block of Overlook Drive in Monticello. The homeowner returned to the home and discovered a forced entry and several items missing. No other details were available from the sheriff's department at this time.

All three burglaries remain under investigation. There is no word on whether or not the burglaries are connected. Hagerty said people should remain vigilant as break-ins on vehicles and homes can increase in the spring.

"We thought with the down economy lately we'd see a rise in this type of thing over the last couple of years, but that really didn't happen. It's common sense stuff–you need to take valuables out of your vehicles for sure."

State investigators encourage people who park in their driveway to remove garage door openers, something not every resident thinks of, Hagerty said. Stolen door openers could be used later to gain access to a home.
