Albertville to Build Baseball Fence, Keep Kids Safe

The fence is being partially funded through a donation from the STMA youth baseball association.

The STMA Youth Baseball Association presented the City of Albertville a $1,500 donation at Tuesday night’s meeting.

The money is to be used for the construction of a fence along the baseline at Oakside Park in Albertville with the hope that this would keep the players on the bench safer.

Steve Hinkelmeyer represented the association and reported that for the 2010 baseball season there were 1,080 registered players composing 86 different teams from ages five to 19. This figure includes both players in the in-house program as well as those playing traveling baseball.

Hinkelmeyer expects participant numbers to be even higher this year.

Hinkelmeyer mentioned the possibility of constructing a batting cage at the Albertville city fields in the future but no details were disclosed at the council meeting.
