Amy Koch: I Won't Run for Michele Bachmann's Seat in Congress

Koch endorsed 'fellow Wright County neighbor' Tom Emmer; Sen. Michelle Benson also not running.

Former state Sen. Amy Koch, the Buffalo Republican who represented the old Senate District 19 (before redistricting) and served as Senate Majority Leader, announced Tuesday she is not in the race to replace the retiring Michele Bachmann in the U.S. House of Representatives.

"Since May 29th, when Michele Bachmann announced she would not be seeking reelection, I have received numerous calls and expressions of support encouraging me to consider runningfor Congress from Minnesota’s Sixth Congressional District. ... After quiet reflection, however, I have decided that I will not be a candidate for Congress in 2014. ...Today I am endorsing my friend and fellow Wright County neighbor Tom Emmer for Congress and sincerely encouraging him to consider running for Congress."

Emmer has scheduled an announcement about his future for Wednesday.

Koch's announcement comes one day after current state Sen. Michelle Benson (R-Ham Lake) also took her name out of the running to represent the Sixth District
