Bachmann Beat: 'If at First You Don't Secede, Try Again,' New Hire Says

An aggregated daily roundup of news and commentary about U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann.

Sixth-district Congresswoman and presidential candidate Michele Bachmann’s campaign released a new Web ad Tuesday highlighting political inconsistencies of her Republican rivals.

“With Michele Bachmann, there are no policy flip-flops,” reads the campaign’s description of the video. “There's no need to compromise on one of the issues that matters to you. She means what she says, and she says what she means.”

The ad ends with the text, “Don’t settle: NoSurprises2012.com,” a reference to the campaign’s recently introduced website that touts Bachmann’s consistent conservative ideology.

Bachmann selected state Sen. Lee Bright to be her South Carolina state campaign chairman on Tuesday.

Bright helped pass an anti-federal health care law in South Carolina, and he has been quoted as saying “If at first you don’t secede, try again.”

Bachmann’s husband, Marcus, has billed the journalist who revealed his clinic’s offering of “anti-gay therapies” $150 for sessions the journalist canceled after he finished his reporting.

The journalist, John Becker, wrote about Marcus Bachmann’s clinic’s “reparative therapy” session to “pray the gay away” in July.

Now, Becker says, Marcus Bachmann has left him a voicemail asking for the money from the canceled sessions.

“I received a message from our billing department asking if we would write off the two no-show fees for July 7, 2011 and July 12, 2011,” Bachmann says in the voicemail. “We will not be writing those off, so you do owe those no-show fees, and we would expect payment as soon as possible, otherwise we will have to turn it over to collections.”
