Bachmann Daily Beat: Migraine Issue Isn't a Headache as Surge Continues

A daily roundup of news, and commentary on U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann.

Despite causing a new medical debate on the debilitating nature of migraines Tuesday, U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann is still enjoying a view from the top.

Polls have her pulling away in her “home state” of Iowa. The latest info released by the Conservative Journal Blog’s “research” team.

Bachmann on Tuesday took some time on her tour of South Carolina, site of an important 2012 primary, to address the migraine issue raised by various news outlets, including The Daily Caller.

Bachmann told reporters the headaches were a “non-issue” for her, and that she was taking medication that kept her on track.

Reports were that the headaches—known in Minnesota for sidelining popular Minnesota Viking Percy Harvin from time to time—have never rendered her incapable of doing her job.

“Let me be abundantly clear—my ability to function effectively has never been impeded by migraines and will not affect my ability to serve as commander in chief,” she said in a statement. She described the headaches as “easily controlled with medication.”

In South Carolina, Bachmann continued to press on her hot-button issues, including so-called “Obamacare,” and the debt ceiling debate. She also referred to herself as a “unifying” candidate. More on that trip here.

Getting back to former Gov. Tim Pawlenty, the one-time Iowa darling took another shot at Bachmann’s supposed “lack of experience,” something he’s trying to use against the two-term congresswoman.

Pawlenty downplayed Bachmann’s surge in Iowa with the following quote in the Los Angeles Times.

"You can’t measure these things in one moment in time,” said Pawlenty, who served as Minnesota’s governor from 2002 until January. “It unfolds over a long period of time and many months. ... The sentiment almost always shifts and the early sentiment is almost always wrong.”

His tactic isn’t working, as major political analysts are dropping Pawlenty from polls that show his performance against current President Barack Obama, electing to use only the top five Republican candidates according to a conglomerate of polls.

Finally, getting back to her work in Congress, Bachmann released a video attacking Obama’s tactics on the debt ceiling negotiations, and stating that she had the “courage” to stand up and vote against any raising of the debt ceiling.

The video, released by her campaign team, includes a reference to her childhood in Iowa.

Finally, the Republican front runner, who is neck-and-neck with Mitt Romney, will take part in a Twitter debate.

The event, set for this afternoon, is hosted by TheTeaParty.net, and also will include Thad McCotter, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, Gary Johnson and Herman Cain.
