Bachmann: Fourth Term in Sixth District the Next Goal

Just days after ending her campaign for President of the United States, Rep. Michele Bachmann intends to continue representing the people the Sixth District, including St. Michael, in Congress.

U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) will seek re-election to her House seat, according to a breaking-news bulletin from the Associated Press Wednesday morning.

Bachmann and St. Michael residents will learn by Feb. 21 which congressional district they will be in for the next decade, when a panel of judges releases Minnesota's new redistricting map.

What the district looks like is almost assured to change, due to population shifts in the northern suburbs. Bachmann may end up running against a strong Democrat, even an incumbant, in Rep. Betty McCullom, if one of the plans submitted to the Minnesota courts is adopted.

As of Wednesday, Bachmann had not filed official paperwork to run for the Sixth District seat, but neither had a DFL opponent.

The picture could become clearer Feb. 7, when all major parties in Minnesota caucus in preparation for the 2012 election.
