Capitol Update: Wright County's Koch, Republican Leadership Offer Concessions
The majority gave Gov. Mark Dayton a Monday afternoon deadline for a written offer submitted Thursday.
In an "effort to find compromise and common ground," the Republican leadership has stepped forward with an few concessions toward Gov. Mark Dayton's proposed budget, the latest in a series of chess moves as the state nears a government shutdown.
Government services would cease July 1, excluding "essential" programs and services outlined by the governor, since the Legislature and chief executive of the state have not found a compromise to set the 2011-2012 budget.
It would be the first such shutdown in more than five years.

The Legislature has "withdrawn its request for tax relief," a proposal that would restore about $200 million to the budget, according to the letter.
Koch and Rep. Kurt Zellers (R, Maple Grove) said the two sides are in agreement on about 50 percent of the budget, and this would be another step toward an agreement.
