Michele Bachmann: Snowden Is 'Absolutely a Traitor'

The congresswoman will speak to the I-94 West Chamber of Commerce July 12, 2013 in Otsego.

U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) commented on Fox News Tuesday about Edward Snowden, who revealed domestic spying programs to the news media, according to Politico

“Absolutely he’s a traitor … and I cannot underscore enough how highly dangerous this was to America’s national security,” Bachmann told Fox News’ Neil Cavuto on Tuesday. “These were important tools that we had at our ready to be able to use to thwart terror attacks. We need to focus on the fact that we cannot allow people to be in positions of sensitive information and to be able to betray the American trust the way that Snowden did. He’s clearly a traitor.” ...

“I think he should be extradited out of China. It’s an unbelievable coincidence that all of this information was revealed just when the President was going to take to task China for their cybersecurity espionage and attack within our government’s computer systems. So I think that there may have been a link there,” she said. “But I think clearly he needs to be extradited. He committed treason against his country, he violated our laws and he needs to have justice.”

Also on Tuesday, Bachmann hit back at Karl Rove's criticism of Bachmann as having done "nothing" as leader of the Tea Party Caucus in Congress. According to Politico

The base of our party is not where Karl Rove is, to be honest with you,” Bachmann said on conservative radio host Laura Ingraham’s show Tuesday.

On Friday, Bachmann told Glenn Beck "Republicans 'don’t even know' they’re in a fight over the bill yet," Politico reported

“We’re losing badly. Why? Because members of Congress don’t even know this fight’s going on, so we need your viewers to melt the phone lines,” Bachmann said.

National Defense Authorization Act
Bachmann succeeded in adding three amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) of 2014, according to her congressional website

The first amendment would properly train, equip and staff the Marine Corps Embassy Security Group, which is tasked with protecting diplomatic posts around the world. In the wake of the terrorist attack in Benghazi, protecting our Embassy personnel and nation’s classified materials has never been more important.

The second amendment ensures that the Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force – Crisis Response can properly respond to international crises and provide rapid security at diplomatic posts.
