MPR: David FitzSimmons to Benefit from MN United PAC

The same-sex marriage advocacy organization aims to aid 15 legislators' re-election campaigns, Minnesota Public Radio reported.

A new political organization that grew out of the marriage-equality group Minnesotans United for All Families will raise money to re-elect State Rep. David FitzSimmons (R-Albertville) and 14 other state legislators, according to Minnesota Public Radio:

"The goal of the PAC is to make sure that the legislators who had our backs, and voted in favor of freedom, know that we're going to support them in their re-election efforts in 2014," [MN United PAC director Richard] Carlbom said. ...

The group is also supporting all five Republicans who voted for the marriage bill, including state Sen. Branden Petersen of Andover, who doesn't face re-election until 2016. GOP state Reps. David FitzSimmons of Albertville, Pat Garofalo of Farmington, Andrea Kieffer of Woodbury and Jenifer Loon of Eden Prairie also are listed.

Two recent Twitter messages by FitzSimmons put the news into context. On Monday he thanked an individual campaign donor for responding to his appeal:

Thanks! "@keull: I received the first mail request for $50 from @dmfitzsimmons and so he shall receive. #TheEarlyBirdGetsTheWorm"

On June 18, 2013, FitzSimmons retweeted a tweet by Andy Parrish:

note to @mnformarriage if you are going to send a hit piece out on a state rep someone should have the courage to put their name on it.
