Q & A: Meet Albertville City Clerk Kim Olson

New city clerk, Kim Olson, started in Albertville on June 18.

The city of Albertville's new clerk started her position last week and is already getting acclimated to the community. A city clerk by definition maintains city records, records meetings and events and manages city elections.

Kim Olson, of Buffalo, is excited about her new opportunity in Albertville and looking forward to meeting members of the community and this fall's elections.

Olson: I started in Parks and Recreation in Plymouth after graduating from Wayzata High School. My supervisor there helped me get a job working in the city of St. Louis Park in the clerks office.

Patch: Where did you go after St. Louis Park?

Olson: I worked in the city of Plymouth as a deputy clerk. My position was mostly working with the council, miscellaneous boards and committees and elections. Plymouth had 25 precincts!

From Plymouth, I then worked in the city of Independence as an administrative assistant and was able to learn so much.

Patch: Why is that?

Olson: In a bigger city, one has a specific role and in a smaller city, everyone has to help with everything so you learn so much. It was very different to go from a big city to something rural.

Patch: What are you most excited about with your new position in Albertville?

Olson: I'm looking forward to the elections and what I can bring to the city. I also am really looking forward to helping and working with the future city adminstrator.

Patch: The city of Albertville has gone through a lot of changes recently, how do you feel about that as you get started?

Olson: I've seen and worked with many different councils and gone through many staff changes in my past positions. Sometimes it's best to bring new talents and views instead of looking back.

Patch: What will be most challenging in your new role?

Olson: Elections are always challenging. No one ever wants a recount.

Patch: What are you most looking forward to?

Olson: Getting out in the community, learning more about some of the city's businesses. Whenever you're learning something new, it's interesting. It's been a great start.
