St. Michael City Council incumbents Chris Schumm and Joe Marx, who were previously appointed to the council, have been elected for another term.
According to St. Michael city clerk Diana Berning, the votes total as follows:
- Chris Schumm: 4,762
- Joe Marx: 2,868
- Cody Gulick: 1,932
- Michael Griffith: 1,273
- Thomas Biernat: 895
Schumm said he has enjoyed being on the campaign trail every day for the last six weeks, when he handed out over 2,500 pieces of literature and talked to residents.
"I get the same response over and over: everyone loves our great city," Schumm said. "Over the next four years, I pledge to do my best, and keep the residents' best interest on the top."
Marx could not immediately be reached for comment.
Biernat said he is thankful for the opportunity to be involved in the election.
"Despite a loss today, I look forward to continuing to be involved with different aspects of St. Michael and its development," Biernat said. "I look forward to creating a more visible presence within the community and will hope to run again in the future."
St. Michael Mayor Jerry Zachman ran unopposed. He said his continuing priorities will be to control the city budget in the interest of taxpayer dollars, downtown redevelopment, and residential and new business development.
"Be assured that we continue to promote all of these areas," Zachman said.
He added the city will continue to work with surrounding cities for Interstate 94 transportation improvements.
"This is receiving very positive feedback from both federal and state agencies, as such a positive message of cities working together for the common good of our citizens," he said.
