St. Michael-Albertville Middle School West Mock Election Shows Majority Vote for Romney

UPDATE- 4 p.m. — The results, with 100 percent of the "precincts" reporting, are in for both schools — St. Michael-Albertville Middle School East and Middle School West:

Middle School West:

• Romney: 434 votes (58.97 percent)
• Obama: 302 (41.03 percent)
• Total: 735 votes

Middle School East:

• Romney: 588 votes (64 percent)
• Obama: 281 votes (31 percent)
• Total: 735 votes (including write-in candidates on ballots)   

Both schools:

• Romney: 1,022 votes (63.7 percent)
• Obama: 583 votes (36.3 percent)
• Total: 1,604 votes

If it were up to St. Michael-Albertville Midde School West students, Gov. Mitt Romney would be the next president of the United States.

A school-wide mock election Monday and today shows the majority voting for Romney, with 92 percent of the "precincts" reporting.

The results are:

• Romney: 404 votes (59.24 percent)
• Obama: 278 votes (40.76 percent)

As of this morning, a total of 682 student votes were cast.

"This will likely match the results for STMA as well," said Ryan Canton, U.S. history teacher at the school, of the actual votes from the area for the general election. "It’ll be fun to compare."

A group of about a dozen students last week showed their school videos about Romney and Pres. Barack Obama to help them make an educated vote.

"There were conversations around the school about who students were voting for," Canton said.

The process ended with a field trip to the Albertville polling place at Albertville City Hall today.
