Tom Emmer: I Raised $220K in First Month Running for Bachmann's Seat

His federal filing, not yet available, includes 300 donors, his 6th District Congressional campaign said.

Tom Emmer announced Tuesday that his campaign for Congress in Minnesota's Sixth District took in more than $220,000.

Emmer, a former state representative (representing St. Michael-Albertville) and Republican 2010 gubernatorial candidate, announced his candidacy for the seat that U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann now holds on June 5, 2013.

Here is the Emmer campaign's statement:

In a little more than three weeks, the Emmer for Congress Campaign raised more than $220,000. The Emmer Campaign will file the required quarterly report with the Federal Election Commission detailing donations from a fundraising support network of over 300 individual donors.

“In less than a month Tom was able to launch and set the foundation of a first rate campaign as well as produce a strong fundraising report that draws on a broad network of donors,” said State Senator Karin Housley, Emmer’s Treasurer.

“I am humbled by the outpouring of support and generosity from across the district, from Lino Lakes to Ramsey to St. Cloud,” said Emmer. Strong fundraising numbers demonstrate the high level of support needed to build a campaign primed for the general election. After a successful campaign launch, these fundraising numbers indicate that Emmer’s campaign has the momentum needed to carry it to victory.

The Star Tribune's Hot Dish Politics blog noted that with his announcement, Emmer is ahead of his rivals:

The other Republicans in the race, State Sen. John Pederson of St. Cloud and Anoka County Commission Chairwoman Rhonda Sivarajah, and DFL candidate Judy Adams, an environmental activist from Circle Pines, have yet to release their fundraising reports.

Next week, the Federal Election Commission will release campaign finance records for all congressional candidates covering the months of April, May and June.
