BREAKING: Blizzard, Wind Chill Warning Force St. Michael-Albertville Schools to Close Monday

Blizzard conditions are expected to turn downright arctic overnight, forcing the third canceled day of school this month.

Yet another "polar vortex" has forced St. Michael-Albertville School District staff to cancel school for Monday, Jan. 27.

The district came down with the decision around 4:30 p.m. Sunday, as 30 mph winds ripped through St. Michael blowing snow and plugging roads.

While that's caused the problems for Sunday night, Monday morning's situation looks even more dire. Winds at sustained speeds of around 25 mph are expected with temperatures in the teens to 20 below zero, creating wind chill effects of 40 below zero.

Under those conditions, exposed skin can freeze in less than five minutes.

The district informed parents earlier this weekend it would come through with a decision about Monday's school day by Sunday evening. It didn't wait, joining dozens of districts in canceling school Sunday afternoon.
