Go Behind the Scenes as St. Michael Family leads KARE 11's Back-to-School Coverage

KARE 11, the area's NBC affiliate, made the Molesky family the centerpiece of their back-to-schoo package this morning. Here's a behind the scenes look.

Did you happen to catch the news this morning?

The St. Michael Molesky family was on the KARE 11 morning show ("Sunrise") showing the Twin Cities how they get ready for back to school.

Chris and Chrisanna have lived in their home in for nearly six years with their three children; Thomas, 9, Emma, 6 and Madi, 3.

When Chrisanna saw a request on the KARE 11 Facebook page Friday for a family willing to allow their first day of school routine to be aired, she sent in an email.

“I wrote them just explaining that we have the perfect neighborhood with lots of kids, we’re right across from the school [Big Woods] and knew it would be fun,” Chrisanna said early Tuesday morning.

Earlier than early for most back to school families, the family did their back to school thing live.

“We were up at 4 a.m.” Chris shared. The KARE 11 crew were on hand, along with Heidi Diller, a Cub Foods Corporate dietician. They showed up at the family’s home at 5 a.m. on the dot.

“We try to be on time,” reporter Janel Klein said with some laughter between segments, “The kids are doing great for being up so early!.”

The family and their home were shown on KARE 11 several times throughout the morning, live. Chrisanna was even asked to share some back to school tips. She said getting everything ready ahead of time, including snacks for the week, was one of her secrets.

“I pack all the kids snacks in snack Ziplocs ahead of time so that I have them all ready to go throughout the week,” she told the KARE crew.

The kids did a "great job" watching mom be interviewed, eating breakfast (twice) and packing and repacking their backpacks for the camera.

“We prepped the kids last night about what was going to go on and about the expectations,” Chrisanna shared.

While Thomas was a little embarrassed about having his family on TV, sister Emma was thrilled.

“I told her it’d be like ICarly [a popular kids TV show],” Chris said, “That way she better understood what was going to happen.”

The nearly two hours of off and on filming at t_he Moleskys ended with a brief interview with Big Woods principal Lee Brown_ and of course, it wouldn’t be KARE 11 without the wave at the end.
