High School Takes Time to Recognize Academic Excellence

Students from all grades were recognized last week at St. Michael-Albertville High School's 19th annual Academic and Leadership Awards ceremony.

Students from all walks of life and from all four grades were center stage, literally, last Wednesday as took time to honor academic excellence with its 19th annual Academic and Leadership Awards Ceremony.

Students were honored for earning academic letters, recognized for being “outstanding” in various academic areas, and took the spotlight for individual academic honors earned throughout the year.

Department awards were given to more than 30 students at age grade level (topping out with 56 seniors) in 13 fields of academia, from art to world language and the Wright Technical Center.

Nearly 200 other students earned academic letters, finishing the year with a cumulative (gathered over the year or years), and were brought on stage at the St. Michael-Albertville Performing Arts Center to receive their award.

Four students were named Student of the Year, as awarded to one person from each grade. They were freshman Jacob Monseth, sophomore Dominic Shovelain, junior Andrea Ohnemus, and senior Elyssa Eull

 The 2012 Top Four Seniors were also recognized at a banquet in St. Cloud at the end of April and are the top 4 students by GPA in this year’s graduating class.  They are Kevin Caron, Michael Bruner, Cory Rothstein and Marshall Smith.
