Honoring St. Michael-Albertville's Teachers (Part Two)

As the school year winds down for St. Michael-Albertville students, in part two of a two part series, Patch is honoring some of the district's best teachers.

It's no secret that St. Michael-Albertville has an abundance of great teachers teaching in the eight different buildings throughout the community.

But there are times that teachers and staff go beyond great! Some go above and beyond helping students and others and deserve a little end of the year recognition.

These are the teachers selected by their respective principals from the middle and high school level.

From :

Michelle Heizelman, Page Academy Teacher. "Mrs. Heizelman is an outstanding teacher that builds amazing relationships with her students and families," said principal Andy Merfeld. "She has an amazing ability to help every student succeed at school. Her perseverance, determination, and positive attitude are the perfect match for leading Page Academy, our middle level alternative learning program."

From :

Jox Metcalf, Broadcast Journalism Teacher. He was honored this fall at the TIES Conference in Minneapolis for his use of technology. He oversees students who put on a daily live broadcast for the high school and has done over 1100 successful broadcasts.

"The daily exposure to one’s work raises the level of concern and accountability on the part of the students and teachers. Jox’s creative
nature and the hard work of the students consistently produce high-quality
broadcasts,” stated Principal Bob Driver.

Sara Shaw, English Language Learner teacher. Nominated by her peers for the Leadership in Education Excellence Award based on the following criteria: 1.  Serves as an example to inspire colleagues, students and their communities through positive leadership and attitude toward the educational field,  2.  Through knowledge of subject matter and leadership in curriculum development, 3. Positve role model for students and staff, 4.  Exemplary instructor who recognized students as individuals and motivates them to reach their maximum potential and who shows genuine respect and concern.

"She illustrates all of these traits daily," principal Bob Driver said. "She's a dedicated teacher who puts her students at the forefront of all her decisions."
