St. Michael-Albertville's Canton Named Teacher of the Year Finalist

St. Michael-Albertville Middle School West teacher Ryan Canton has reached uncharted territory, becoming one of 10 finalists for Minnesota Teacher of the Year.

Ten teachers from across the state have been named finalists in the 2012 Minnesota Teacher of the Year program. A selection panel of 22 leaders in the areas of education, business, government and non-profits selected the finalists from a group of 34 semifinalists. There were 111 Teacher of the Year candidates for this program year.

Included in the Top 10 is social studies teacher Ryan Canton, who also serves as the school's adviser for the student council.

The selection panel meets again May 5 to conduct individual interviews with the 10 finalists and to cast votes for the 2012 Minnesota Teacher of the Year.
