St. Michael-Albertville Announces 2012 Inductees to the Hall of Fame

announces its 2012 Hall of Fame class that will be inducted Friday, Sept. 14 prior to the 7 p.m. home football game at the Football Field. A reception will be held for the Hall of Famers at 5 p.m. at the .

Elaine Steffens Weber

Elaine is a 1977 graduate. She was a three sport athlete lettering in track, volleyball and basketball. Track and Field was what got her noticed in high school. She held many school records. Her 440 and 880 yard dash records stood for many years.   She was one of the first female athletes to advance to state in St. Michael-Albertville history.                   

Elaine ran for two years at Stout and another two years at St. Cloud State University.  She ran the 400 meters in 56.84, which was a long time school record at St. Cloud.

Martin Robeck

Martin graduated in 2000 and was a cross country and track athlete.  During his high school career he was a conference individual champion in cross country.  Track he was four time champion in the 800 and 1600 meter events. He was on three state cross country and two state track
teams.   He was at three time state champion in track.  He won the 1600
meters, was a part of the winning 4 X 800 and 4 X 400 relays.  The 4 X 400 relay times still is a MSHSL all time record for Class A.  His cross
country team was second in the state in 1998 and his track team was the State Champion in 1999.

After high school he ran for the University of Minnesota. There he ran track and cross country.  Here he earned one All Big Ten honor and three Division I All American awards.

Jenna Stangler Helgeson

Jenna was a three sport athlete graduating in 2001. She was an All Wright Conference volleyball player her junior and senior years and a five time letter winner in track and field.  She was a four year starter in
basketball.  Jenna was four time all conference in basketball.  She was on two conference championship teams.  Jenna was a key member of the 2001 STMA team which one the Class AA MSHSL State Championship.  She was named to the 2001 All Tournament Team, All State Team and All Academic State Team.

After high school, Jenna went on to play Division 1 basketball at Valparaiso University in Indiana. While there, Jenna played in two NCAA tournaments in 2003 and 2004 and competed in the WNIT in 2002. Jenna was a four year letter winner at Valparaiso. She was named Mid-Continent Conference Honorable mention in 2004, Mid-Continent Conference Second Team in 2005 and to the Mid-Continent Conference All-Academic Team from 2002-2005. Jenna’s college basketball team graduated 82 wins, the most in school history.

Mitch Potter

Mitch graduated from STMA in 1999. He was a three sport athlete.  Mitch was in football, track and wrestling.   He was an outstanding receiver and kick returner in football. During his high school track career, he won five state Track and Field titles. He still holds two state records in the Class A 300 meter hurdles and 4 X 400 meter relay. He was a key member of the 1999 STMA Track Team that won the MSHSL Track and Field Class A Championship.

Mitch Potter went on to attend the University of Minnesota where he established himself as one of the most dominant track and field athletes in Minnesota history. While at the U of M, Mitch won nine Big Ten championships. He was a 12-time All-American, a member of the 2003 World Championship 4x400 meter relay team and was the 2003 Pan American games 400 meter gold medalist. Mitch was named the 2003 NCAA Track and Field Male Athlete of the Year. Mitch was also a Two-Time Olympic Trial Qualifier in 2004 and 2008 in both the 400 meter dash and the 4x400 meter relay.
