St. Michael-Albertville' Guillou Wins Statewide Competition

St. Michael-Albertville High School junior Eli Guillou rolled to victory in the Minnesota Department of Public Safety's "Buckle Up, Teens!" Campaign

Eli Guillou's going to be part of a late-summer tradition, as his video will air during the MTV Music Awards this September. 

Guillou, a St. Michael-Albertville High School junior, rolled to victory in the Minnesota Department of Public Safety's "Buckle Up, Teens!" Challenge, earning more than 5,000 votes for his video, "No Big Deal." 

This spring, the Department of Public Safety teamed up with local high school students to create a new public safety message about seatbelt use, from the vantage point of one of the biggest at-risk populations in the state–teen drivers.

Statistics show teens are more likely to suffer injury in an auto crash than come down with most common diseases, yet thousands of teens across Minnesota get behind the wheel each day without buckling up.

That's where the video campaign comes in.

Students were challenged to create a 30-second saftey message, Guillou was up to the task.

Guillou will get a scholarship and the spot during one of the most-watched shows on cable televsion.

Guillou is competed against students from Zimmerman High School and Winona Cotter High School. Voting ends May 24. The Video Music Awards air in September.
