St. Michael-Albertville Middle School Councils Hit the Road

The student councils from both Middle School East and Middle School West took some leadership training in Alexandria, with solid results for both schools.

Last month, over the dates of Nov. 10 and 11,  middle school student councils from all over the state of Minnesota, including the student councils from Middle School West and , went to a leadership conference at Arrowwood Resort in Alexandria.

The purpose of this conference was for the students and advisers to learn about how to be better leaders in their schools.

The conference speaker was Phil Boyte, who specializes in leadership training.  He has been doing leadership training since 1983. Boyte spoke about taking initiative, personality traits, and perspectives. He also did many team building activities to help us as student councils to become better leaders, and a better team.

also presented at the conference, touching on how they helped build community after the loss of Mr. Larson.

Both councils  came back with many ideas to help their school. New ideas are bountiful at these schools. They come back with ideas to help make our schools and our community a better place. A group of students from Middle School West Student Council also came to their school on a day off (November 23) to teach the staff about personality traits and how they affect leadership. It was a great experience for both middle schools, and they are hoping to do it next year as well.
