In a new STMA rotary program, two high school juniors are recognized as October Students of the Month.

STMA Rotary Club is pleased to announce its new “Student of the Month Award” program which recognizes St. Michael-Albertville High School juniors for their school and community involvement.  The award’s first recipients are Emily Achterkirch and Mercedes Zahler, who were recognized as Rotary Students of the Month for October at Rotary’s Oct. 9 meeting.

Emily is the daughter of Todd and Diane Achterkirch of St. Michael. She is

She was voted her hockey team’s MVP and Miss Defense, Mississippi 8 All-Conference and Section 8 All-Star, Academic All-Conference, has received three-sport awards in soccer and track and is a two-time department award winner in both math and engineering and technology. Emily volunteers at the Crow River Senior Center and is involved in Students Stepping Up.  She plans to major in mechanical engineering and to play Division 1 college hockey.

Mercedes is the daughter of Rhonda and Joe Zahler of St. Michael.  She
