St. Michael-Albertville Youth Football in 12th Year

The St. Michael-Albertville Youth Football program, run through Community Education, is in it's 12th year.

Once again this Fall over 300 4th, 5th and 6th graders are enjoying tackle football in St. Michael-Albertville. The program, established in 2000, also involves over 60 volunteer coaches.

The program launches every August with coaches orientations, parent meetings and equipment handout prior to the first practice sessions two weeks before the start of school. In addition, coaches trainings are conducted by the St. Michael-Albertville High School Varsity football coaching staff. These trainings focus on youth football fundamentals and technique. Coaches also attend a preseason orientation session that’s focuses on the program philosophy of teamwork, fun, fair play, respect and maximum participation. All coaches also complete an online training related to recognizing the symptoms of concussions.

“Our philosophy is that every player deserves to have fun while playing football”, said Greg Voss, Program Coordinator. “We emphasize respecting opponents, coaches and game officials”.
