St. Michael-Albertville Schools Will Open Two Hours Late on Thursday, Jan. 23

Buses will also run two hours later than scheduled for students, due to the extreme cold forecast for tomorrow morning.

St. Michael-Albertville School District will open doors to the community's students two hours late tomorrow, according to an announcement issued by the district Wednesday evening.

Morning temperatures were expected to be in the teens below zero. With expected winds of around 10 mph, wind chill values will be in the 20 to 30 below zero range.

"We usually think about the safety of our students first and foremost," said Dr. James Behle, who weighed in on the decision to postpone or cancel school earlier this year. "Some are out at those bus stops for several minutes before the bus arrives, and when the cold is that severe, you worry about things like frostbite and just the danger it presents for those kids."

Kids Play and Just for Kids will meet as usual. Bright Beginnings and ECFE will not have morning classes. There will be no morning kindergarten or "Climbers" classes at the Albertville Primary Thursday.
