Basketball Recap: Knights' Boys and Girls Win Final Conference Games

In a run-down of Friday night's basketball action, the boys and girls Knights teams both won important games.

The lady Knights (22-4 overall) notched an important win over Mississippi 8 Conference rival Monticello (12-14 overall) on Friday night.  

Coming off a devastating road loss at Buffalo on Tuesday, Knights captain Natalie Van Wyhe scored 20 points and Bailey Thompson chipped in with eight points in the 53-47 winning effort.  

STMA withstood 15 and 13 points from Monticello's Grace Sawatzke and Tish Jude, respectively.

Elsewhere in the community, the boys basketball Knights (18-6 overall) easily beat Monticello 73-52 (8-16 overall) in its final game of the regular season.

The win improved the Knights' conference record to 12-2 but kept them one-and-a-half games behind Mississippi 8 winner Buffalo. STMA's Michael Weise led all game-scorers with 20 points while Joe Carpenter added 16 in the easy win.

Monticello's Anthony Saavedra and Bryce Balfanz scored 16 and 10 points, respectively, in the game.

The section tournament for girls basketball begins Feb. 28 while the boys begin play on Mar. 8.
