The Minnetonka Skippers are serving notice that they're not to be counted out when it comes to the conversation about best teams in the West Metrol.
The blue and white moved to 2-0, joining Wayzata and Eden Prairie, with a 49-14 trouncing of Coon Rapids.
Ian Cote broke the game open with a couple of 1-yard plunges, and then the Skippers used big plays from their defense and the passing game to run away with a 42-0 halftime lead.
Nick Rooney had three touchdowns for Minnetonka, two through the air.
Osseo 26, Maple Grove 20
In the northwest corner, Osseo used a fourth quarter touchdown run from Troy Kray in the fourth quarter to come back from a 13-0 deficit in this Class 6A rivalry game.
Bridge Tusler had 104 yards rusing, but the Crimson kept him out of the end zone and kept the game in their control for much of the first half, getting out to a 13-0 lead behind two big touchdowns from Brycen Wojta.
Wojta had a pick-six for a score, and caught a touchdown pass in the loss.
The football team suffered its first loss of the season Friday, Sept. 7, in a close battle against Totino-Grace High School.
The Eagles were able to effectively eliminate the Hornets' running game—Edina finished the game with a combined 23 yards rushing—forcing quarterback Mark Handberg to throw the ball for much of the contest. Handberg completed 20 of 29 passes for 187 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions.
The Hornets are now 2-1 on the season, while Totino-Grace maintains its undefeated record at 2-0.
St. Michael-Albertville 43, Duluth East 7
The Knights, who were kept off the scoreboard in their season opener, exploded for 43 points on the road in Duluth.
Dallas Freeman had two returns for touchdown - an interception and a kickoff, and Cole Krutzig scored twice through the air to lead St. Michael.
The Knights held Duluth to under 200 yards total offense on the night.
Wayzata 24, Eastview 7
The Trojans, ranked second in the state, also moved to 2-0 behind Mitch Underhill's two touchdowns, both from 20 yards away. Tannder Bedard had a score for Wayzata as well.
