Playoff Time For Knights

St. Michael-Albertville sports squads either competing in or preparing for postseason this week.

The postseason began in earnest this week as sports teams from St. Michael-Albertville as Knights several squads either began postseason play or are concluding their regular season schedules.

Baseball: Knights 10, Big Lake 2

In its second-to-last game of its pre-playoff slate, the St. Michael-Albertville baseball team defeated Big Lake, 10-2, on Tuesday to improve to 12-7 overall and 11-5 in the Mississippi 8 Conference.

Dain Krutzig went 3-for-3 with three runs driven in and two scored to help make a winner out of starting pitcher Brian Lavallee, who struck out five and gave up one hit in five innings of work.

The Knights, who finished in second place in the conference standings, play at St. Cloud Tech at 7 p.m. Thursday in the regular-season finale.

Softball: Knights Eliminated In Section 5AAA Playoffs

A 2-0 loss to Centennial at Rice Creek Park in the second round of the Section 5AAA Tournament ended the St. Michael-Albertville softball team's season.

The Knights, seeded seventh in the sectional, had bested Rogers by a 1-0 score on Monday in the playoff opener and logged an 11-9 overall record this spring.

Boys Tennis: Knights Defeated By Elk River In Sectionals

The St. Michael-Albertville boys tennis team lost, 7-0, to Elk River at Sartell in the Section 8AA quarterfinals on Monday after defeating St. Cloud Apollo, 5-2, in the playoff opener earlier in the day.

Next up for selected Knights players is the sectional individual tournament, slated to start on May 31.

Boys Golf: Knights Second In Conference Title Meet

A team card of 304 earned the St. Michael-Albertville boys golf team a second place finish behind Rogers at Riverwood National on Tuesday. Rogers scored a 291, with Buffalo finishing third with a 308.

Girls Golf: Knights Fourth In Mississippi 8 Championship

The St. Michael-Albertville girls golf team recorded a 378 to finish fourth in the Mississippi 8 championship meet on Tuesday at Fox Hollow. The Knights placed behind Buffalo (348), Monticello (368) and Becker (372).
