St. Michael Wrestler Chas Betts Competes Today in London

The St. Michael Roman-Greco wrestler began competition this morning.

The day Chas Betts has been dreaming and training for has arrived. His first match against Keilana Graham of Micronesia went especially well with Betts winning 6-0, 1-0.

For his second match, he will be up against Pablo Shorey of Cuba. Shorey is the 2010 World Silver medalist. Shorey previously beat Betts in the Pan-Am Olympic qualifier final.

The Roman-Greco qualifying matches will be televised from London at 11:15 a.m. today followed by the finals from 2:30 -3:30 p.m. More finals will be aired Tuesday from 4:45-5:30 p.m.

The Star Tribune published an article this morning about Betts and his wife, Kristi and the sacrifices their marriage has taken to make this Olympic run. In addition to Betts and his wife, nine family members are in London watching and cheering Betts on.
