St. Michael-Albertville Basketball Programs Continue Tradition of Giving Back Friday Night

The Knights boys' and girls' team will lace up to raise funds for the Hofmeister family, and to take on rival Buffalo High.

The St. Michael-Albertville basketball programs will continue its tradition of fundraising and giving back to the community with the “All for Elli” girls and boys basketball doubleheader, set for Friday, January 10th.

The night will be full of great basketball as both teams host rival Buffalo Bison.  Games begin with the ninth grade teams playing at 4:15 p.m. The girls varsity will conclude the night with an 8 p.m. tipoff.

In addition to cheering on the Knights, you can also help raise money for Elli Hofmeister, a sophomore at the STMA High School.

Elli is a beautiful, fun-loving junior who was diagnosed with Juvenile Huntington’s Disease (JHD) in March of 2013. JHD is an inherited brain disorder that results in the progressive loss of both cognitive ability and physical control. Since being diagnosed, Elli’s physical control has already started to deplete, but not Elli’s attitude. She is so strong and has put on a brave front after finding out about her terminal disease. Because there are only 31 cases of JHD in the country, no treatment or cure has been discovered. Elli and her family will be faced with many struggles and financial hardships. For more information and to follow Elli’s story, visit www.caringbridge.com/visit/ellihofmeister.

At Friday night’s game fans can purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win a flat screen TV, Timberwolves tickets, passes to Nickelodeon Universe at the Mall of America, Moose Mountain passes, Knight athletics passes and many other prizes. There will also be a 50/50 cash drawing.

Drawings will be held at halftime of the girls varsity game, so around 8:30 p.m.

There will also be “All for Elli” t-shirts and bracelets available for purchase. All proceeds will go to the Hofmeister family.

Fans that already have an “All for Elli” shirt should wear it to the games on Friday. If you do not have one, come dressed in PINK or GREEN, Elli’s favorite colors!

It's the third straight year of giving back for the teams. In 2012 the girls' team hosted a "coaches vs. cancer" night with all proceeds going to the Letellier family. Last year, the girls hosted two STMA Middle School East students - Aly Juntenen and Tyler Purohit - again raising money for their cancer fights.
