STMA Youth Wrestling Team Participates in 2013 State Tournament

Information provided by the STMA wrestling youth wrestling club.

The STMA K-6th grade youth wrestling team recently participated in both the
team and individual state tournaments in Rochester, MN.  

After qualifying for the Team State Tournament at a Region Qualifier in Waconia, the STMA youth wrestling team headed south to compete against the best the state had to offer.  

In their 5 dual meets at state, their results were as follows:

First round - lost 38-39 vs. Minneota (second seeded team in the tournament)

Second round - lost on a tie-breaker 35-35 to Sauk Rapids

Third round - won 41-29 vs. Faribault

Third round - lost 36-40 to Waseca

Fifth round - won 38-33 vs. Brainerd/Pillager.  

Individually, STMA also had 10 wrestlers qualify for the NYWA Individual
State Tournament this year. STMA also had their first individual champion
in four years, as Parker Janssen took home the state championship.
Individually, the STMA youth wrestlers finished as follows.

Parker Janssen finished a perfect 4-0 and took home first place overall in the
1st-2nd grade division at 50 pounds.

Nathan Nygaard finished with a 3-1 record in second place overall in the
5th-6th grade division at 65 pounds.

Isaiah Mlsna finished with a 5-1 record in third place overall in the 3rd-4th
grade division at 70 pounds.

Mason Mills finished with a 4-1 record in third place overall in the 1st-2nd
grade division at 45 pounds.

Myles Dehmer finished with a 3-2 record in fourth place overall in the 1st-2nd
grade division at 85 pounds.

Jackson Kephart finished with a 4-2 record in fifth place overall in the
3rd-4th grade division at 95 pounds.

Jonathan Mlsna and Brandon Psyk both finished with 2-2 records on the
weekend, but did not place.  

Nolan Kottke and Owen Barthel both participated on the weekend but also did
not place.
