Two St. Michael-Albertville Squads Skate into State

For the first time ever, a Pee Wee team from St. Michael will skate at a state tournament. Meanwhile, the North Wright County RiverHawks U14 team showed the program can make state at another level.

St. Michael-Albertville hockey fans tipped Patch off to a pair of area teams that are headed to State Hockey Tournaments next weekend, after the boys play in the big dance this weekend.

First, the St. Michael-Albertville Pee Wee B team skated in the West Regional Final tournament last weekend, and opened with a 5-1 win versus Wayzata Navy. The Knights then earned a spot in the state play-in round, knocking off Edina 4-3 in a dramatic, overtime contest.

In the final, top-ranked Wayzata Blue knocked off St. Michael-Albertville, setting up a re-match for Wayzata Navy and STMA in the "true state" play-in game. The Knights responded with their 18th shutout of the season and advanced to Stillwater with a 2-0 win.

The RiverHawks girls' U14 team, meanwhile, earned its trip to state by placing third in the Fogerty regional tournament, and will be in Woodbury next weekend at the state tournament.
