Free Family Fun Day: Stump the Naturalist: Bugs

Sunday, July 14, from 1-3 p.m., at Kroening Interpretive Center, in North Mississippi Regional Park, Minneapolis. Use microscopes, see real insects, learn about them and bring in a Minnesota bug to try and stump the naturalist! This program is free and open to all ages.

Feeding Frenzy

Sunday, July 14, from 1-3 p.m., at Eastman Nature Center, in Elm Creek Park Reserve, Maple Grove. Different animals will be fed throughout the afternoon. Drop in anytime. This program is free and open to all ages.

Free Family Fun Day: Pond Exploration

Sunday, July 14, from 3-4 p.m., at Richardson Nature Center, in Hyland Lake Park Reserve, Bloomington. Meet a naturalist at the Nature Center’s dock and use a net and bowl to scoop critters out of the pond. Discover the many small animals that live in a pond and make up the aquatic food chain. This program is free and open to all ages. 

Saturday Morning on the Farm

Saturday, July 20, from 9:30 a.m.-noon, at Gale Woods Farm, Minnetrista. Explore the Gale Woods Farm barn where you can meet animals, assist a Gale Woods farmer with chores, and participate in other seasonal farm activities. Reservations are not required. Cost is $5 and children under 2 are admitted free. 

Meet a Live Animal

Saturday, July 20, from 10-11 a.m., at Hyland Lake Park Reserve, Bloomington. Touch a cold-blooded animal, and watch a reptile move. Meet live animals and a naturalist from nearby Richardson Nature Center, where a variety of wild fun awaits. This program is free and open to all ages. 

Dragonfly Collecting

Saturday, July 20, from 1-2:30 p.m., at Eastman Nature Center, in Elm Creek Park Reserve, Dayton. Join a naturalist to search out and collect dragonflies for the Minnesota Dragonfly Survey Project.  Learn dragonfly biology and identification. Hike out to the prairie to catch dragonflies and other insects, and design a dragonfly craft. Cost is $5 and this program is for ages 4+. 

Grimm Farmhouse Open House

Saturday, July 20, from 1-4 p.m., Grimm Farm, in Carver Park Reserve, Victoria. Step back in time and explore Wendelin Grimm’s farm.  See the restored 1870s house and fields where Grimm, a German immigrant, experimented with his alfalfa. Hear how his work transformed the Upper Midwest into America’s dairy belt. Experience hands-on work and play of a late 1800s Minnesota farm. This program is free and open to all ages.
