St. Michael-Albertville Group Hits Minnesota State Fair Stage

Three young local musicians, all students at St. Michael-Albertville High School, will be competing in the semi-finals of the Minnesota State Fair Amateur Talent Contest, and will perform at the Fair’s Leinie Lodge Bandshell at 6 p.m. (today) Monday, August 27.

The group, Border Patrol, consists of Tommy Lindquist and Steven Haynes, both juniors at STMA, and Maddie Balintona, a sophomore. 

Along with hundreds of other talented acts, Border Patrol performed an audition before a panel of judges, and were among the select few chosen to move on to the semi-finals.  They and 30 other Teen Division acts will now compete for a chance to perform at the Talent Contest Finals, which will be held on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at the legendary State Fair Grandstand. 

Border Patrol is an acoustic trio featuring piano, guitar, percussion, and three-part vocal harmonies.  Tommy, who plays piano in the group, and his guitarist buddy, Steven, have been playing music together since fifth grade – back when Tommy was an aspiring drummer, and Steven’s guitar was as tall as he was.  After discovering that their childhood friend, Maddie, possessed an angel’s voice, Border Patrol was born. 

At the State Fair, Border Patrol will perform a harmony-drenched version of The Head and The Hearts’sLost In My Mind.
