Updated: Overnight Power Outages Restored in St. Michael, Hanover

Nearly 2,900 customers were without electricity in eight communities, including St. Michael.

Updated 9:51 a.m. June 21, 2013: Less than 10 residents in the St. Michael and Albertville area reportedly were without power, according to the Xcel Energy power outage mapXcel Energy released the following statement around 9 a.m. Friday morning for Minnesota.

A severe band of thunderstorms moved through Minnesota early Friday morning, June 21. The storm caused significant damage to our electric system, including a number of downed poles and power lines. Outages are scattered throughout the state, with approximately 130,000 customers without power at this time.

We are currently assessing the damages and no restoration time is yet available. Additional crews from the North and South Dakota and other utilities have been coordinated to assist with restoration efforts. Please stay away from downed power lines and always assume a downed wire is energized and therefore dangerous. Report downed power lines to Xcel Energy at 1-800-895-1999 or call 9-1-1.

St. Michael was one of eight communities where 2,868 customers lost electrical service Thursday night, according to Xcel Energy. 

Power went out at 10:24 p.m. Wednesday, and the company expected to have service restored by 2:34 a.m. Thursday. 

Communities affected included St. Michael, Maple Grove, Rogers, Corcoran, Loretto, Hassan, Greenfield and Hanover, according to Xcel's online outage map
