Albertville Woman Recognized for Helping Save a Man's Life at the State Fair

Albertville woman Amber Buckingham was awarded a certificate from the Albertille council Monday night.

The Albertville City Council recognized resident Amber Buckingham at Monday night's council meeting. Buckingham, a trained EMT who works for MedEvent Services was at the state fair with her daughter and friends when she was called over by friends to help a gentelman who had stopped breathing.

"There was a lot of screaming and panicked people looking for a doctor or a nurse," Buckingham said this week. "I asked if anyone saw what happened and just got started checking his airway and pulse."

Buckingham started CPR with someone else assisting and continued compressions until help arrived.

Because of her quick thinking, his life was saved.

"I really think more people should get trained in CPR," she said stating how much easier the training has gotten over the years.

The mayor and council presented Buckingham with a certificate recognizing her for her "quick thinking and willingness to act to save a life at the MN State Fair. Her instincts and skills as a trained EMT to administer CPR to an unconscious person helped successfully revive the victim’s breathing."
