Wright County motorists and passengers are reminded to buckle up this spring as extra Click It or Ticket seat belt patrols take to the roads statewide May 20 - June 2. The Wright County Sheriff's Office is among nearly 400 Minnesota agencies increasing patrols to encourage motorists to buckle up. In the last three years on Minnesota roads (2010-2012), there were 864 traffic deaths, of which 352 (41 percent) were not buckled up. Of those 352 killed, 41 percent were motorists ages 16-29, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety. The following incidents were among the arrests in the county made by Wright County deputies May 6-11, 2013. All individuals are charged but are innocent until proven guilty in Wright County District Court. May 6 May 7 May 8 May 9 May 10 May 11 There were 23 property damage accidents, four personal injury accidents, one hit and run accidents and three car deer accidents. There were 11 arrests for DWI, two underage Consumption arrest, one school bus stop arm violations and 41 tickets for miscellaneous traffic violations reported this week.

No injuries or structural damages were reported from the fire May 15.
The Albertville Fire Department responded to a report of a grass fire at approximately 5:55 p.m. Wednesday, May 15 in Otsego, according to Fire Chief Tate Mills. The fire, west of County Road 19 and south of County Road 39, was contained quickly and no injuries or structural damages were reported, according to Tate. Crews cleared the scene about 7:20 p.m. Wednesday. The cause of the fire is unknown and currently under investigation.
With the exception of the driver, no other individuals were reportedly on the bus when the accident happened near 50th and Labeaux Avenue.
A school bus and vehicle were involved an accident early Wednesday morning in Albertville. The incident was reported around 7:30 a.m. May 15 to dispatch, according to Wright County Sheriff's Office Capt. Greg Howell. Initial reports indicated the accident occurred near 50th and Labeaux Avenue in Albertville and involved a school bus with no passengers and a passenger vehicle, Howell told Patch. No injuries were reported. St. Michael-Albertville Schools Superintendent James Behle confirmed no students were on the bus at the time of the accident. A representative of Don’s Bus Service told St. Michael Patch a car turned in front of the unoccupied bus. The bus was still drivable, with “barely any scratches,” he told Patch. Updated 8:15 a.m…

There were no injuries in the incident.
The St. Michael Fire Department responded to a grass/swamp fire south of 34th Street/Carissa Lane around 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 12, according to Fire Chief Steve Hosch. “On arrival the department found an area around the pond to be on fire. With the wind direction and the open water of the ponds and yards the fire could not spread,” Hosch wrote in an email to Patch. “The department quickly extinguished the fire, no homes were damaged or in danger.” The cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to Hosch. Additional charges could be filed against a St. Cloud man following I-94 chase last week.
The driver of a motorcycle that led several law enforcement agencies on a chase down I-94 last week has been charged by Hennepin County prosecutors with fleeing police and DWI. An off-duty Plymouth police officer was in the area of I-94 and Weaver Lake Road in Maple Grove last Wednesday, May 1, when he observed a motorcycle driving erratically and almost hitting several vehicles, according to the criminal complaint filed late last week and signed by Deputy Ramone Walton of the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office. I had a good friend die in a car crash years ago because her fiancé was not wearing his seat belt. They were out looking at churches to get married in when a deer ran out in front of him, he lost control of his truck and it rolled. He was 6'5" and she was 5'2" - and he crushed her. They/she would have been perfectly fine if he had buckled up. It was so sad and senseless. :( more ›
