Test your knowledge and earn bragging rights among your friends and peers, all for a good cause, as the St. Michael-Albertville girls' soccer team hosts a new sort of fundraiser.
As school districts tighten their belt, extracurricular activities have often taken it open their collective selves to raise funds to succeed, including money for trips, additional coaching staff members and even equipment. Friday night, the St. Michael-Albertville girls' soccer team is putting a new twist on that idea, looking to raise money with an event that promises an evening of fun, combined with a test of wits. With a focus on local artists, the St. Michael-Albertville Rotary Club is back with its celebration of art and Rotary. Here's a peek at what will be up for auction Thursday night.
More than 60 St. Michael-Albertville students from all schools and grades who are donating pieces of art to the St. Michael-Albertville Rotary Club's art auction (see preview video here). The third annual event will raise money for an art scholarship. Joining in with the students are local artistans, who have donated more than a dozen pieces to the show, which can be seen in the attached PDF. The event is set for Thursday, Feb. 28 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. Michael City Hall. The Foxtailers Snowmobile Club's trail opener event last month raised more than $2,600 — an amount that was split between the Hanover Food Shelf and the Hanover Fire Department. The event was a "real success," said Eric Swenson, Foxtailers Snowmobile Club president. Proceeds from the Hanover event, hosted by Chops Bar and Grill on Dec. 3, came from over 60 silent auction items from more than 40 local and national sponsors. More than 250 people attended the event. A check in the amount of $1,318 was presented to the Hanover Food Shelf, and another $1,318 to the Hanover Fire Department. A card that "every golfer should have" will be available the first week of December. The St. Michael-Albertville High School boys and girls golf teams will be selling discount golf cards as a fundraiser, just in time for holiday gift shopping. The card offers two golf course green fees for the price of one at more than 100 courses in Minnesota. It can be used up to four times at each course. "If you golf two or more times in a year, it pays for itself," said Mitch Harmoning, STMA girls golf coach. "Every golfer should have it." He added that although there are stipulations as to when the card can be used, "most find the card very helpful and cost-effective." Big Woods Elementary PTO is putting on their annual carnival this Friday night at the school.
The third annual Big Woods PTO Carnival is this Friday night. The evening is sure to be a fun event for the whole family. To date, the PTO has received over $2000 in cash sponsorships from area businesses and groups, as well as many generous donations, reported Kristin Weigle. The event is coined as an evening of old-fashioned family fun with food and games, inflatables and face painting and even crazy hair and photo booth. There will also be a silent auction. The carnival starts at 5 p.m. and runs through 8 p.m. and everyone in the community is invited. This is the only school carnival in the school district.

They will be accepting free will donations and selling concessions from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Auto Showers in St. Michael. The Republican Party of Wright County is hosting a fundraiser Friday night.
The Republican Party of Wright County will be hosting a fundraiser at Buffalo Rock Winery (4527 23rd Street SE, Buffalo, MN 55313) on Friday, June 29 from 6-9 p.m. Proceeds from the fundraiser will go to benefit local Republican candidates. Tickets cost $20 for individuals and $35 for couples. The mother of an all-conference basketball player, wife and friend is battling Stage 3 breast cancer. Now, the Andersons need the community's help with a special party.
Last year, Sherlyn Anderson was diagnosed with Stage-3 breast cancer. Over the past several months, she has undergone a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation treatment to help her battle the disease. To help with rising medical expenses, friends and family will be holding a benefit from 4 to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 16 at the Liberty Restaurant and Bar/St Michael American Legion Food and drinks will be provided for purchase with part of the proceeds going to the Anderson Family.
