National Weather Service Issues Tornado Watch for Hennepin, Wright County

The watch is in effect until 9 p.m. Sunday, May 19.

Update 5:10 p.m. May 19 The National Weather Service issued a special statement:  .THUNDERSTORMS MOVING INTO/DEVELOPING OVER ANOKA...CARVER... CHISAGO...DAKOTA...HENNEPIN...RAMSEY AND WASHINGTON COUNTIES THROUGH 530 PM CDT... AT 455 PM CDT...WEATHER SERVICE RADAR WAS TRACKING STRONG THUNDERSTORMS ALONG A LINE EXTENDING FROM THE LAKE MINNETONKA AREA TO MINNEAPOLIS TO 6 MILES EAST OF EAGAN. Support Builds for Gov. Dayton's Quarter-Cent Tax Increase

The Counties Transit Improvement Board voted to support a local sales tax increase for transit funding.

The following was released by Hennepin County: The Counties Transit Improvement Board voted at its February meeting to support Gov. Mark Dayton’s proposed quarter-cent local sales tax increase for dedicated transit funding in the region.  “Not only are we competing for scarce federal dollars to build transit investments like the Southwest Light Rail Line, we are also competing with other regions to attract companies and talent," said Counties Transit Improvement Board Chair Peter McLaughlin.  "Using the metro area sales tax as a long-term funding source allows the region to plan ahead and build the kinds of transit investments Minnesota needs.”  The proposed quarter-cent increase in the regional transit sales tax would be imposed across …

Want a Valentine's Day Wedding? Hennepin 4th District Judges Will Do It Free

The services are being conducted to acknowledge people dedicated to public safety, but if time and space permit, county “civilian” couples will be married as well.

The following was released by Hennepin County: The Hennepin County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution allowing Hennepin County 4th Judicial District Court judges to conduct free marriage ceremonies on Valentine’s Day on the Hennepin County Government Center Public Service Level.  The services are being conducted to acknowledge people dedicated to public safety. Priority will be given to military (active duty, reserve, National Guard and veterans) and first responder (police, fire, EMT, sheriff’s deputies) couples. If time and space permit, county “civilian” couples as well.  The event is being done in collaboration with the county Taxpayer Services Department, which oversees the six county service centers (where couples can apply…

Hennepin County Grants Include Several West Metro Cities

Money was given to Hopkins for apartments in lieu of vacant buildings; bikeway and sidewalk grants will go to Golden Valley, Minnetonka, Excelsior, St. Louis Park, Plymouth and Eden Prairie.

The following was released by Hennepin County: Board awards pedestrian and biking funds  Every year, the county awards various funds through its Pedestrian and Bicycle Capital Improvement Program, which includes three programs: Bikeway Development Participation, Bike Program Discretionary (Bicycle Gap Program), and Sidewalk Participation.
