A public safety summary of service provided by the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Patrol Unit the week Feb. 25 to March 3, 2013 for area communities

The following public safety summary of information from the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Patrol Unit that includes highlights from Feb. 25 to March 3, 2013. In addition to the law enforcement services it provides throughout the county, the HCSO provides primary patrol services for the communities of Hassan Township, Greenfield, Medicine Lake and Fort Snelling, as well as the Hennepin County portions of Hanover and Rockford. The report was provided by the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office. Not all incidents are included in the summary. Rockford Feb. 27 - Deputies responded to an address in the 8000 block of Hwy 55 for a disturbance call.   Deputies spoke with the resident and advised.  No other action was needed.   Rogers Feb. 25 - …

Five Drowning Deaths Put 2012-13 Winter on Pace to be State's Deadliest since '06

Deaths in Stillwater and Lake Minnetonka; dozens of cars, snowmobiles and ATVs have broken through area ice this winter.

This winter season (November to April) is on track to be the deadliest on the ice in more than five years, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR). So far this winter, five people have died after going through the ice in Minnesota. A sixth person is missing and presumed drowned. In the 2006-2007 winter season, eight people died in ice-related incidents. Just last week a snowmobiler died after going through ice on the St. Croix River near Stillwater. Three of the state's five deaths—an infant, a man in his 30s and an elderly female—have occurred on Lake Minnetonka. “There could be several reasons why so many people have died this year,” said Kara Owens, DNR boat and water safety specialist. “It could be there are …

Hennepin County Sheriff: 'No Ice Should Ever Be Considered Safe'

After a rash of vehicles going through the ice in recent days, including one that resulted in the death of an infant, Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek urges residents to review ice safety guidelines.

By Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek There have been seven vehicles that have broken through the ice on Lake Minnetonka in four days, Jan. 18-21. Tragically, one incident resulted in the death of an infant, an 8-month-old girl from Minnetrista.   Related Posts: The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office reminds residents that no ice should ever be considered safe. Residents are urged to review these safety guidelines: Last winter Sheriff Stanek took the unusual step of ordering all vehicles off Hennepin County ice after a rash of accidents was blamed on thin ice conditions. Stanek said Saturday that he was not yet prepared to take a similar step this winter.

Police Create Perimeter, Catch Theft Suspect in Albertville Thursday Morning

A suspect in the theft of a truck and trailer was found.

  Several blocks and business parking lots were splattered with police squad cars in Albertville this morning in a perimeter and search of a suspect in the alleged theft of a truck and trailer. The suspect was found around 9:15 a.m. His has not been released. "I imagine people who live around there saw a lot of commotion," a Wright County Sheriff's Office dispatcher told St. Michael Patch. The Wright County Sheriff's Office and the Hennepin County Sherriff's Office K9 Search Unit surrounded the area near 57th Street Northeast and Kalland Avenue Northeast. Police recieved a report that the stolen truck and trailer was abandoned in that area. The truck was found in Medina, but deputies created a perimeter in search of the suspect. The …

Albertville Man Among Two Killed in Maple Grove Car Accident

According to the preliminary report by the Minnesota State Patrol, the car accident, which killed an Albertville man and Buffalo woman, happened just after 1 a.m. Sunday morning

Two people are dead after a man suspected of driving while impaired sped through an interection on County Road 81 in Maple Grove the morning of Sunday, July 10, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. Details from the preliminary accident report released by the Minnesota State Patrol are as follows: A vehicle driven by Jeramiah Robert Wall, 34, of Albertville was stopped by a Hennepin County Sheriff’s Deputy on suspicion “of being impaired.” Wall fled the stop and “continued at a high rate of speed on County Road 81." The report stated witnesses said the vehicle driven by Wall entered the intersection of 93rd Avenue North “against the red light” as a second vehicle entered the intersection “when it was struck in drivers door.” The driver …
