Who has the best “decked” house in St. Michael and Albertville? According to users who voted in our annual Deck the House contest, Kelly Duncan's Albertville home has the best holiday lights in town. Duncan submitted a photo of her house to Patch's Deck the House contest in early December. Congratulations to the Duncan household, with holiday spirit both inside and outside their house! Although the Duncan house didn't make it into the 25 finalists nationwide, the community can still vote for the country's winner. Two "very deserving" community members were awarded the Lions International Melvin Jones Fellowship award.
Albertville Lions President Ron Tiernan was on hand at the Albertville Friendly City Days coronation on Sunday, June 10th to present awards. In addition to presenting that days parade awards, he presented two community members with the Lions International Melvin Jones Fellowship award. Kelly Myers, Albertville Royalty Program Director and Kelly Duncan, Royalty Treasure/PR were called to the stage to receive their Melvin Jones Fellowship plaques. "They are very deserving," Terese Gammell said. For Miss Albertville Jessica Wojcik and Princess Brittney Heinen, Albertville Friendly City Days week provides a big ending to a very big year.
For now, there is still talk of which dress to wear, how to get to the next community festival, and where to grab breakfast for the candidates along the way. There’s decisions for shoes and music mixes, and even discussion about who to maybe play a bit of a practical joke on this weekend. The phrase used around the Miss Albertville camp is "Sparkle Time." At the end of this week, however, that will come to a happy ending. “To get to know the girls and the women that are involved in Albertville Royalty as much as you do, it’s like a second family,” said Brittney Heinen, Albertville Princess and last year’s Miss Congeniality. “We’ve all built this relationship. Each winter, in conjunction with Friendly City Days, the Albertville Royalty Program begins its search for Candidates for the up-coming year. The Royal Court represents Albertville in community parades and coronations, as well as Albertville city events. Volunteerism is an important part of this program; the Royal Court is encouraged to be active in charitable opportunities in and around our community. A scholarship is provided to apply towards whichever Educational Institution Miss Albertville & each Princess attends following the completion of her reign!
