'Art is Life to Me': St. Michael-Albertville Students Prepare for Art Auction

The Feb. 28 event features art work from students of all ages at STMA schools.

  St. Michael-Albertville High School senior Katie Scott hopes she can continue art "forever." The dedicated art student is one of more than 60 St. Michael-Albertville students from all schools and grades who are donating pieces of art to the St. Michael-Albertville Rotary Club's art auction (see preview video here). The third annual event will raise money for an art scholarship. The event is set for Thursday, Feb. 28 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. Michael City Hall. The preview will take place from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Some of the pieces are on display at St. Michael-Albertville High School's main office until the event. VIDEO: Rotary Art Auction in St. Michael to Feature Over 60 Pieces

St. Michael area artists and students of all ages from STMA schools will have their work featured in the Feb. 28 event.

  The video above gives a peek at what will come to St. Michael City Hall Feb. 28. The third annual art auction, organized by St. Michael-Albertville High School art teachers for the first time, is expected to raise money for art scholarships. The scholarships will be put together by the St. Michael-Albertville Rotary Club, the organization that runs the art auction each year. More than 60 pieces of art from students in elementary through high school have been prepared for donation at the auction. Area artists will also have professional work up for sale. St. Michael-Albertville Middle School West Students 'Keeping Art Real'

Students painted an art mural with a professional artist and their art teacher during exploratory day.

  St. Michael-Albertville Middle School West art students worked on keeping art real at their school — both literally and figurately speaking. The students painted a mural titled "Keeping Art Real," featuring a splattered paint background and the faces of artists from history such as Frida Kahlo, Jackson Pollock, and Salvador Dali. "We didn't know how it was going to turn out," said fifth-grade student Olivia Peltz, adding that when she looks at the finished product, she thinks, "Wow, I actually made that!" She and other fifth-grade and sixth-grade students worked on the mural during their school's Exploratory Day on Jan. 25, which is about learning from the community.
