Severe Thunderstorm Watch in Effect for St. Michael, Much of Minnesota Until 11 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for St. Michael, Wright County and much of Minnesota until 11 p.m. tonight.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Wright County, St. Michael and the Twin Cities until 11 p.m. tonight. A strong cold front is expected to move into northwest Minnesota and move through the rest of the state by early Thursday morning. Showers and thunderstorms will likely develop along this front across northwest Minnesota, and spread east-southeast during the afternoon and evening. The National Weather Service in Chanhassen has issued a second Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Wright County.

Tornado Watch on for St. Michael as West Metro Braces for Storms

The tornado watch runs until 11 p.m. Sunday. Snow could follow on Monday.

A tornado watch is in effect for multiple Minnesota counties, including Wright County, until 11 p.m. Sunday night. A front sweeping across the Northern Plains has already rocked the Midwest, with storms from Kansas and Oklahoma all the way to Wisconsin and Illinois. The National Weather Service issued the latest watch a little before 4 p.m. Severe thunderstorms are also possible in the Twin Cities on Sunday evening, as a low pressure system makes its way through the area. Hail and damaging winds could both occur with the storms. More rain is possible in the metro throughout the coming week, according to the latest NWS forecast.

Lightning Strike Shakes Albertville Home

A strike around 8:30 a.m. hit the home at 6827 67th Street NE, in the Towne Lakes area of Albertville.

A lightning strike shook two home and ignited a fire in one in the 6800 block of 67th Street Northeast in Albertville around 8:30 a.m. this morning.  Two residents at 6827 67th Street NE, Ashley Furstonberg and Chelsea Doyle, were able to escape the house after the bolt ignited a fire in the basement.  "I told [Ashley] we needed to get down to the basement because the storm was moving in, and all of the sudden it hit," Doyle said.  The two women, both 21, saw the flames in the basement and "took off" for a neighbor's house.  "I was actually in bed in our home and we felt it," said neighbor John Creed, who lives at 6813. Here We Go Again: Another Line of Thunderstorms Triggers Warning for Wright County

Another system making its way through Central Minnesota has triggered a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The National Weather Service in Chanhassen has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Wright County, in effect Tuesday morning through 8:30.  Wright County Dispatch issued the call for weather spotters at 7:30 a.m. this morning with a call to all fire departments and sheriff's deputies as the storms were forming to the west, headed east/southeast.  The lead storm of the system was rolling through Willmar around 7:30 a.m., but the actual front stretches as far north as Little Falls, and as far south as Brookings, S.D. Some of the storm cells had a history of dropping heavy rain, some pea-sized hail and winds in excess of 60 mph. The storm itself was moving 50 mph. Heavy Rain, Severe Weather Likely Tonight in St. Michael Area

A huge storm front is making its way out of the Dakotas into Central Minnesota, prompting a severe thunderstorm watch for the area.

The National Weather Service in Chanhassen has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for St. Michael this evening, as a line of storms moving through Minnesota should hit the area late tonight or early Wednesday morning. Severe Weather, Excessive Heat Making Way Toward St. Michael Area

Severe thunderstorms could hit the area this morning, while high temperatures and humidity will make for dangerous conditions this weekend, the National Weather Service states.

The National Weather Service in Chanhassen has issued a pair of weather advisories for the St. Michael-Albertville area, including a severe thunderstorm watch this morning, running until 1 p.m. Friday afternoon.  The NWS has also issued an excessive heat watch through Wednesday, as temperatures are supposed to spike Saturday and Sunday, with heat indices in the 100s both days as the heat is accompanied by high humidity.  The watch continues through the early part of the week.  Friday, a storm front had already moved into Stearns County by 7:30 a.m., prompting a severe thunderstorm warning.  The watch, issued for St. Michael and the entire Twin Cities metro stated:  THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 647 IN …

Line of Severe Storms Bearing Down on St. Michael, Albertville

The first wave of severe weather expected this evening was making its way through areas west of St. Cloud. The storms were moving southeast along Interstate 94.

UPDATE - 9:44 p.m. CDT: The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Eastern Wright County until 10:30 p.m. Sunday. A massive front with high winds and heavy rain is expected to arrive in Wright County this evening before 10 p.m. Destructive winds of 70 m.p.h. have been associated with this storm.  Cities included in the warning are Buffalo, St. Michael and Albertville. Heavy rain headed toward St. Michael area

Get set to get wet

The St. Michael and Albertville area could see as much as three inches of rain over the next 60 hours, according to forecasts from the National Weather Service. Wet weather is expected to move into the area late today, bringing the possibility of some severe summer storms and almost certainly heavy rainfall Monday night through the entire day Tuesday. Rain of more than one inch is forecast for Monday and Monday evening, with an additional two inches expected to fall throughout the day Tuesday and into Wednesday morning.  The Twin Cities area is forecast to get 2-4 inches of rain by Thursday, with pockets of 5 inches or more expected.
