GALLERY: Inaugural Tree Lighting Celebration in St. Michael

The first-ever Tree Lighting Celebration happened Tuesday night at St. Michael City Center.

In what can only be described as a raving success, the St. Michael-Albertville Rotary and Shop St. Michael groups pulled off a very successful and enjoyable evening for the community Tuesday night. Dozens of families from the area gathered around the newly planted Holiday tree for Christmas carols and the lighting by the first Cheermeister, Jim Pichler. The celebration and fun continued indoors after the tree lighting. With hot dogs, cocoa, cookies and Santa, both kids and adults enjoyed several books read by community volunteers and Albertville royalty. While no official headcount was taken, Shop St. Michael chair Bob Enright was very happy with the turnout. "We couldn't have asked for better," he said Tuesday night.

I am Catholic and DO NOT find the Holiday Tree offensive. I will refer to it as the Christmas tree among my friends and family. I am proud to have been part of funding this project and hope that we, as a community, can celebrate our wonderful town, our beautiful facilities, and build commradery around our Town Tree this November. Celebrate the fact that we can celebrate whatever Holiday we choose…   more ›
