Every community needs its "Bare Necessities." An introduction of children to the arts, a St. Michael-Albertville group, should be one of them. SOAR Arts Regional Program has developed SOAR Academy, a theater program for kids that keeps young actors, actresses and stage production crew involved from the moment they enter the theater. With SOAR Academy’s first production, "The Jungle Book Kids," STMA residents can join Mowgli, Baloo, King Louie and the gang as they swing their way through madcap adventures and thwart the ferocious tiger, Shere Khan. The school hosted daily activities around the theme, "Catholic Schools Aim Higher."
St. Michael Catholic School students participated in National Catholic Schools Week by writing letters to soldiers, donating items and visiting with community members. The activities kicked off Sunday with a mass and open house. The theme this year at St. Michael was "Catholic Schools Aim Higher" along with the national theme, "Catholic Schools Raise the Standards." Each day of the week included a specific theme and activities to match it: The activites end Friday with "Catholic Schools Aim Higher with Our Staff and Volunteers," when students and staff will "dress their best" and attend mass. School administration issued a statement Sunday night on how it is responding to the national tragedy.
Prayer and safety will be of the utmost concern Monday at St. Michael Catholic School. In the wake of a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT that left 20 children and six adults dead, the weekend brought national mourning and prayers for those impacted. St. Michael area residents expressed their words of support over the weekend. St. Michael Catholic School Principal Jenny Haller issued a letter to parents Sunday night informing them of the school's plans and intentions as students return to school Monday. "We want you to know what we have done and will be doing at school to address this event," Haller wrote. St. Michael Catholic School's preschool through eighth grade will begin two hours late Monday, according to its website, due to the winter blizzard. St. Michael Public Schools will also open two hours late. Buses will pick up students two hours later than the usual schedule. Preschool will open at 9:30 a.m. and be in session until 11:00. Preschool "Stay and Play" and "Kids Club" programs will be open normal hours unless school is cancelled. If the school is announced closed, childcare programs close as well. Advanced band students will not meet Tuesday morning. "Be sure to bring all of your outdoor gear this week so you can play in the snow at recess!" states the school's website.

Over 200 staff and students were at the Sept. 14 Minnesota Twins game to sign the National Anthem. "We had a great time and the kids did a great job," principal Jenny Haller said after the game.

For the second year in a row, St. Michael Catholic School students have the opportunity to sing the National Anthem on Target Field.
For the second year in a row, St. Michael Catholic School students have the unique opportunity to sing the National Anthem on Target Field. Two hundred and twenty students from the school will travel by bus to Target Field and sing. "A parent initiated the event last year and since the group did a good job they were invited back," Principal Jenny Haller said earlier this week. The Twins play the White Sox Friday night with the game starting at 7:10 p.m.
