Along with traffic incidents, the St. Michael area saw several arrests for assault, theft and stalking.
Wright County saw an unusually high number of traffic tickets in the past week. Miscellaneous traffic violations resulted in 71 tickets cited by the Wright County Sheriff's Office. In addition, there were 34 property damage accidents, two personal injury accidents, four hit and run accidents and 12 car-deer accidents in Wright County in the past week. There were three arrests for DWI, no underage consumption arrests, and one school bus stop arm violation in the past week. Arrests in the St. Michael area ranged from assault to theft and stalking. A DNA sample from a cigarette butt and a Gatorade bottle at the site of the former Cinemagic Theater in St. Michael led police to arrest a suspect last week on burglary and theft charges. Clay Anthony Swanson, 31 of Faribault was arrested Jan. 2 by Wright County deputies on a warrant for allegedly breaking into the building in February 2012, and stealing more than $100,000 worth of copper wiring, according to a criminal complaint filed in October 2012 by Wright County Attorney's Office. He is charged with second-degree burglary; first-degree damage to property, reduced to the level of "over $1,000;" and damage or theft of telecommunications lines and wires. In addition to more than a dozen arrests for assault and DWI in the St. Michael area in the past week, several other arrests were made for various charges, including child neglect, theft and disorderly conduct. The following arrests were reported by the Wright County Sheriff's Office and took place in Otsego, Buffalo, and Monticello. More than 100 DVDs have gone missing from shelves.
A new mystery has made its way to the shelves of the St. Michael Public Library — the case of the disappearing DVDs. Managers of the library, officially known as St. Michael-Albertville-Hanover Community Library, report more than 100 DVDs missing from its inventory. They noticed it last summer, and it has continued over the past few months, said St. Michael Branch Manager Marla Scherber. "They're just disappearing," Scherber said. "We started to notice that people would order them, and we'd look on our shelves and they weren’t here. Every day, we'd run the list, and it would say the movie is here, but not a single one on the shelf.
