The new store's opening heralds a competitive battle between firearms-retail giants, the newspaper reported.
The imminent opening of a new Gander Mountain store selling only guns in Rogers promises to bring the battle for firearms buyers close to St. Michael, according to the Star Tribune: Competition seems inevitable, because, given the layout of Rogers’ streets, most customers will pass the Gander Mountain store on their way to Cabela’s, which, in addition to guns, sells hunting, fishing and camping gear and related clothing. ... Rogers is a good location because “it catches people on their way north,” said Steve Uline, Gander Mountain’s executive vice president of marketing, in an interview. After closing its Maple Grove store about a year ago, is reportedly opening a “Gander Mountain Firearms Super Center” off of Interstate 94. The business is remodeling the former Best Buy site in Rogers.
After closing its Maple Grove location about a year ago, Gander Mountain is preparing to reopen in nearby Rogers. The 30,000-square-foot facility is located at 20870 Rogers Drive near the Intersection of I-94 and Highway 101 in the former site of Best Buy. Gander Mountain stated it would be opening in late April, according to a press release. It will be the 12th store in Minnesota, according to a Gander Mountain press release, which said it is the state’s first dedicated “Gander Mountain Firearms Super Center.” Gander Mountain said the Firearms Super Center is a “new concept” which provides a specialty retail outlet with “thousands of new and used firearms of all kinds” as well as a selection of “firearms accessories, specialty apparel, …

State Representative Joyce Peppin, R-Rogers, recently introduced legislation that would expedite and complete the Brockton Lane Interchange Project. Peppin’s bill, House File 1340, would provide a full access point and additional traffic lanes along the 6.5-mile stretch on Interstate Highway 94 between Maple Grove and Rogers. “This is among the longest stretches of freeway without an exit in the entire metro area and it is time to get this critical project underway,” Peppin said. After closing its Maple Grove location about a year ago, Gander Mountain appears to be eyeing a new location in nearby Rogers. Gander Mountain is possibly slated to fill the former site of Best Buy located at 20870 Rogers Drive in Rogers, although no confirmation of the site location has been received from the business. Gander Mountain recently posted several job openings on their website, listing Rogers as a “new store” in Minnesota. Job openings listed on the Gander Mountain website include, as of March 6: maintenance associate, receiving supervisor, part and full time customer service associate, operations specialist and zone supervisor.
