Book Warehouse Sells Discounted Titles at the Outlet Mall

The business buys publishers' extra books and then sells them to St. Michael and Albertville residents at reduced prices.

The Book Warehouse is the newest tenant to set up shop in the Albertville Premium Outlets. Store Manager Matt Davies talks with St. Michael Patch about what the store has to offer.

  • Store manager: Matt Davies
  • Store location: Promenade side of Albertville Outlets
  • Store hours: Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

St. Michael Patch: What's the story behind Book Warehouse?

Matt Davies: Our store offers great books at discounted prices. Our hardcover books are at least 80 percent cheaper than you would find at other bookstores.

Patch: How can your store offer books at such a price?

Davies: We sell what's called remainder stock. When a publisher has too many books in stock they sell it to us at discounted price, which means customers get a great deal.

Patch: Why did the store set up in the Albertville Outlets?

Davies: We did a test run here awhile back and the store had great success. By the time we went to inquire about a long-term lease, there weren't any more storefronts available so we had to wait. When a spot opened up last April, we were thrilled. We opened April 11.

Patch: Is there any concern about the declining publishing industry?

Davies: We're certainly staying on top of the trends. The passion of the publishing industry is turning towards children's books. To increase literacy, children need to see and feel a book in their hands. In response to this trend, we have a large kids section.

Patch: What else can customers find in the store?

Davies: We have a large section of nonfiction, cookbooks, children's books and audio books. Of course, there are other smaller categories tossed in too, but we try to keep our selection diverse and focus on titles that people want. Customers will find several thousand books to pick from in our store, and again, they're all sold at discounted prices.
